In My Garage

Our friends at Garage Plus thought way outside the storage unit box when they came up with this concept: Garage “condos” you can own and customize! As they say, your imagination is the only limit to what can be done with your personal toy box. We recently asked Michelle Simon of Garage Plus to share a little more about their project.

IMG: Tell us briefly about the Garage Plus concept.

GP: Garage Plus Storage is the only approved active use storage facility in Pierce County that you can actually own! It is also one of the largest in the world! What this means is you can actively use your garage just as you would in your own home. Car and bike enthusiasts, boaters, and small business owners now have at their fingertips a secure place to indulge in their hobbies. The climate-controlled facility is open 24/7, has Internet connectivity, a club house, meeting rooms, showers, and more. And you own it!

IMG: This concept is quite unique. Where did the inspiration come from?

When the property was first located we had many different ideas about what to build. As my husband and I discussed these options, the thought of storage came up. Then we started thinking about selling to the end user, so he or she had an investment and they could use the storage unit just like a garage. Then we just got crazier and crazier as the ideas came. A club house, open area, rec room, big screen TV, showers! Our families are car and outdoor enthusiasts, so as the idea grew it became more and more personal, because this is where we wanted to work on and store our own toys.

The club house will be a meeting and socializing hub for owners.

IMG: Why was Western Washington chosen as the site? Do you see Garage Plus expanding?

GP: Western Washington is home to us. We wanted to build close to where we live, and as the idea grew we learned that there were many small businesses and car clubs in the area that could use a facility like this! We are looking for other locations to build in Western Washington. As far as beyond Washington, only time will tell!

Garage Plus has broken ground and hopes to have units ready by April. Come visit their showroom this Saturday, February 6 for a “Kick the Tires” event! Griot’s Garage will be there providing hands-on Car Care demonstrations at noon, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm.
