When people have success using Griot’s Garage products, we love to hear about it! We receive countless letters from customers who have won everything from weekend car shows to the Pebble Beach Concours. But when our customer’s 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa hit the auction block recently, like the rest of the world, we were blown away by the result.
We know this car quite well… It graced one of our Handbook covers back in 2008! Ferrari 0666TR is powered by a 2953cc V-12 with a single overhead cam. It makes 300 bhp at 7200 rpm, and is capable of speeds of up to 165 mph. It was the prototype, and first 250 Testa Rossa ever built.

The TR after its wreck at LeMans
Completed in early 1957, it was returned to the factory after its first two races, converted to the final 1957 Testa Rossa engine/transmission combination, and rebodied by Scaglietti. The body features distinctive pontoon fenders, inside door hinges, and scoops between the fenders and hood for brake cooling.
The car has an impressive racing pedigree, and has been campaigned at LeMans, the Targa Florio, and others. After suffering a pair of fires and an accident at LeMans in ‘58, it was rebuilt in Marinello and raced a bit more before retiring to live its life competing in vintage races and on concours lawns. As it sits, the Testa Rossa has been impeccably restored by the folks at Dennison International and cared for using Griot’s Car Care.
When the hammer dropped on August 20th, our customer’s Ferrari set a new auction world record at $16.4 million. Considering the beauty, history, and rarity of this car, it was worth every penny.
Bellissimo!

So, with a cool $16.4 million in his pocket… I wonder what the seller will spend it on. How ’bout you? What would your first purchase be after a record auction sale?
Have fun in your garage!
