Project 280SLeeper Part 1: A Mercedes 280SL Gets Prepped For Resurrection

Follow along as we chronicle the revival of a 1970 Mercedes 280SL. Like a vast, open road that disappears into the horizon it is difficult to image what trials and tribulations await the Benz. As we start this series, the car has been deconstructed, bits and pieces shipped out, and the shell has just returned from the paint shop.

American Muscle In Spotlight At Caffeine & Gasoline

American Muscle In Spotlight At Caffeine & Gasoline

Cars are freedom. I remember how my first car, a six-cylinder ’67 Camaro, opened up my world, giving me the ability to go anywhere at any time. I’ve always thought this realization of freedom was one of the driving forces behind America’s love affair with the automobile. So the Fourth of July holiday is a great time for a car show.

Vintage Racing Celebrated At June Caffeine & Gasoline

Vintage Racing was the battle cry at the June Caffeine & Gasoline and the place was rockin’. A suitably loud and visceral  McLaren CanAm car was fired up twice during the morning. We were impressed with the number, quality, and diversity of the custom cars and trucks that rolled into the Griot’s Garage parking lot.

Feuer Rettungswagen: 1963 VW Single Cab Fire Rig

This ain’t your granddad’s flower power festooned VW Bus. This 1963 single-cab is an all-original vintage fire rescue rig straight from the homeland: Historischer Loschzug Pelfum, Germany. It’s complete down to the last fitting and owner, Jason A., told us with a chuckle that the pump almost out-powers the Bus: Pump 36, Bus 40. Yikes.

Stampeding Mustangs Dominate Caffeine & Gasoline

Stampeding Mustangs Dominate Caffeine & Gasoline

The deep and distinctive V8 roar of two dozen free revving Mustangs shook the trees and echoed through the neighborhood at our April Caffeine & Gasoline. Griot’s Garage was overrun with ponycars as we paid tribute to 50 years of the Mustang. The coordinated group fire-up sent owners scurrying to their cars to get in on the action.
