On this day in 1958, Chevrolet introduced its infamous car/truck hybrid, the El Camino. Unfortunately, Ford had beaten Chevy to market with its Ranchero, and the bowtie was discontinued after two years. As Ranchero’s shrunk to fit the Falcon platform, Chevy saw an opportunity and reintroduced its “coupe utility vehicle” in 1964.
