Fire-Up! Vintage McLaren Edition

With the Auto Display in the new Griot’s Garage HQ (have you seen this place?), we constantly have amazing cars on display for everyone to see. On rare occasions like today, we actually get to hear (and feel) some of these babies fire up. Today’s treat, vintage McLaren. Check out a quick description of the cars, then scroll down for the videos!

1967 McLaren M6A-1

Powered by a Lucas fuel injected small-block Chevy engine mated to a Hewland 5 speed transmission, this car is quite the beast. Bruce McLaren built this car for the ’67 Can-Am Series and drove it to a championship that season finishing 2nd in Bridgehampton and Mosport and 1st at Laguna Seca and Riverside.

1968 McLaren M4A

One of just 25 models made by McLaren in ’67 and ’68, this specific M4A was driven by Rob Widdows during the 1968 European Formula 2 season under the Checkered Flag Racing banner.

1977 McLaren M23

The McLaren M23 was one of the most successful Formula 1 chassis of the 1970s. This specific car was raced by Jochen Mass in the 1977 season and finished 2nd in the Swedish GP, 4th in the Spanish GP, 4th in the Monaco GP, and 9th in the French GP.

Feeinng woozy, strange rush, Dang! now I need new shorts! 😛

  2. Love it! McLaren’s Papaya Orange is gorgeous. That M6A has to be my favorite of the three. There’s just something magical about small-block Chevy V8s.

    This will prove my point:
