Mercedes-Benz To Produce Pickup Truck, Meet The X-Class

In a better-late-than-never move Mercedes is jumping into the pickup truck game, becoming the only German automaker currently producing a pick-em-up. Before you get your engines revving too much, it is unclear if this rig will be bound for American shores or a Euro-only proposition. The X-Class certainly has the look.

The X-Class is built on Nissan’s Navara platform. The Navara is the overseas name for what Americans know as the Frontier compact pickup. Current plans have the X-Class being motivated by a combination of gasoline and diesel powerplants and the truck will feature Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes plans to offer three trims of the truck and current estimates put pricing in the mid $40k range.

The X-Class is slated to go on sale in Europe, Australia, South America, and South Africa in 2018. We’d expect some insight into availability in America around that time.
