Old School Datsun 510 Gets Modern Power Infusion

We scoped this old schooler on and it sent us down a rabbit hole of LS swap options, swap candidates for the Datsun 510, and general car dreaming.

This Dime was built in two years’ time by Jared Snetsinger at Fremont, California’s Lucky’s Speed Shop. Jared kept things in the “L Family” by removing the 96-horsepower Datsun L16 and dropping in a Chevy LS6 that produces a tire-granulating 440 horsepower at the wheels. The 5.7-liter V8 is teamed with a Tremec TKO600 five-speed tranny and Ford 9-inch rear end with a Detroit TrueTrac LSD fitted with 3.55 gears.Footwork consists of Koni coilovers up front and QA1 coilovers out back on the car’s four-link rear suspension. Eibach springs provide the lowered stance at all four corners while Corvette ZO6 six-piston calipers and Wilwood slotted rotors enhance stopping power. Impressive attention to detail is also seen in the cabin.
